2027: Kwankwaso vows strong showing as NNPP reaffirms readiness for polls
By John Akubu
Ahead of the 2027 general elections, the 2023 Presidential Candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has expressed confidence that the party will record a strong performance at the polls, describing it as one of the most vibrant and performing political parties in the country.
Kwankwaso, who is the National Leader of the NNPP and a former Governor of Kano State, spoke in Abuja at the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting. He commended the party’s organisational strength and growing national spread, noting that the NNPP has continued to demonstrate discipline, unity and internal cohesion.
While congratulating the newly appointed Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Joash Amupetan, Kwankwaso expressed optimism that the electoral umpire under his leadership would deliver credible elections. He also lauded NNPP members for the peaceful conduct of congresses across the country, describing the exercise as a clear indication of the party’s preparedness for the 2027 elections.
The NNPP national leader further appreciated Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, for his support and performance in office, urging party members to remain committed, united and focused. According to him, solidarity, mutual understanding and unwavering commitment remain critical to the party’s success.
Earlier in his remarks, the National Chairman of the NNPP, Dr. Ajuji Ahmed, praised the party’s unity and resilience, saying it has remained steadfast despite attempts by detractors to destabilise its operations. He highlighted the party’s achievements, attributing them to strong leadership, cohesive membership and adherence to its core values.
Ahmed specifically commended Governor Yusuf for what he described as landmark achievements in education, healthcare, infrastructure and human development, saying the governor has continued to fly the party’s flag high in Kano State. He also paid glowing tribute to Kwankwaso, describing him as the “unquestioned and unquestionable father of modern Kano” and a towering figure in Nigerian politics.
The NNPP chairman urged party members to stay focused on the party’s objectives, stressing that the party remains firmly united behind its national leader and governor and is well-positioned for victory in 2027. He cautioned against attempts to push the country towards a one-party state, warning that such moves could result in political self-implosion.
In his contribution, the National Secretary of the party, Oladipo Olayuku, credited the leadership of Senator Kwankwaso and Governor Yusuf for transforming the NNPP into a national political force. He recalled that when the current leadership assumed office in 2022, the party was relatively unknown, but has since grown into a household name with nationwide relevance.
Olayuku also commended the party’s performance in the 2023 general elections despite what he described as internal sabotage, and praised NNPP-elected officials, particularly Governor Yusuf, for their performance in office. He expressed appreciation to the judiciary for resisting attempts to interfere in the party’s internal administration and to INEC for upholding the rule of law.
He further disclosed that the party has reviewed its constitution, changed its logo, slogan and flag, and is intensifying preparations for the 2027 general elections. Olayuku urged party members to close ranks, resolve internal differences and support the new leadership to emerge at the forthcoming national convention.
